Billy
Frenzel was born on February 18th, 1979 in Anaheim, CA. Throughout
most of his childhood he spent the majority of his free time involved in
various sports. In junior high Billy took up the saxophone and bass
as a part of the South Jr. High School band program. Music served
a small part in his life until his freshman year in high school, when a
fractured back put a stop to his involvement in sports. Taking a
suggestion from his mother, Billy decided to begin saxophone lessons with
internationally acclaimed saxophonist, Dan St, Marseille. St. Marseille,
along with high school director Art May, helped to instill, in Billy, an
undying love for music and the strong work ethic and personal discipline
that the art requires. At age 16 he discovered another love; composition
and arranging. After composing an original composition for big band
Art May, being a teacher in its truest sense, urged Billy to write music
for the high school marching bands' field show. Taking full advantage
of this "hands on" approach to writing, Billy soon learned what worked
and, more importantly, didn't work. It was at this point that Frenzel
made the important decision to contiue in music equally as a composer and
saxophonist. This was also the point in which music began to provide
him with an income. Local schools began to commission works and he
started to work as a saxophonist with his own jazz quartet at local coffee
shops, restaurants, and charity events. |
